The advantages of the PDF/X-1a specification?
It is a global standard (ISO 15930)- PDFs can be created and sent from one location to a print shop in another location without any worry about output problems. More and more printers/output bureaux are asking for the PDF/X-1a file specification. They know it is the only way to ensure consistency of output. Time Warner in the USA adopted this specification and migrated 25% of the entire USA digital advertisements.

Frequently asked Questions (FAQs)
How much time and resources does it require?
This really does depend upon your existing PDF infrastructure and your general understanding of digital artworking. If you are already creating PDFs and pre-flighting them to a pre-determined profile - then the move to PDF/X is a small one. Saying that, if you jump straight into PDF/X - without any previous pre-flighting experience, then your learning curve would be similar to a non-PDF/X environment.
Can I implement it within my existing workflow?
Yes - providing you are - or will be - utilising the PDF file format.
